Application advice

Filling out your form

  • Make sure you check your form carefully to ensure there are no mistakes. If possible, write the details down first and ask someone else to read through it for you, such as a careers advisor or one of your parents.
  • Check if there is a closing date, and reply in plenty of time. Take a copy of your completed application form before submitting it to help jog your memory later
  • Spend time on the questions that ask about your skills, personality and what motivates you: these count for a lot when you are looking through your application. Use specific examples that are recent, relevant and provide real demonstrations of your skills.
  • Examples can come from work, school, college or life experience.
  • Complete all sections of the form in detail, and make sure you check your spelling and grammar before submitting the form. Again, if it helps, get someone else to read through it for you. They will be looking at it with a fresh pair of eyes!

Getting ready for interviews

  • Prepare for any interviews by reading up about The Co-operative. Our website is a great way to find out more.
  • Ask what will be involved during your interview. Plan how you will get there and what you will wear.
  • If you have a disability or any special requirements, let us know in advance.
  • During your interview, make sure you are positive and confident, and be sure to sell yourself. Remember, your interviewer will also want you to do well.
