HR Programme

Programme Length: 2 years

Induction

You’ll get off to a flying start with a two week long introduction to the business. You’ll meet various people you’ll be working alongside including managers, directors, and of course your buddy. They’ve already been through the programme and will help you along on your journey. As part of your induction you’ll also take on a mini project, helping you get to grips with the other business areas, while giving you the chance to build your network of contacts.

Customer Insight Project

Your first big project will focus on our customers. After all, they’re at the centre of everything we do. We’ll team you up with other graduates and give you a challenging customer issue to investigate. You’ll need to plan your approach as a team, manage your time and get to the heart of the issue. Then comes the hard bit: identifying recommendations and presenting to senior managers. It’s by no means a paper exercise. We really want to see your ideas, so we can use them to improve the business.

Store Experience

Before you launch your HR career, we think it’s important to give you good all-round picture of the wider business. So for the first stage of the programme, you’ll spend 8 weeks in one of our branches. Not only will you get the operational experience to really understand who our customers are. You’ll also get to develop your leadership skills by shadowing the branch manager and working on a pioneering project of your own.

Core Year

Having gained an in-depth understanding of our customers, you’ll then have the opportunity to broaden your experience by embarking on your Core Year. Here you’ll get to experience different functions within the Group, outside of HR. Not to mention the chance to pioneer projects of your own. The aim is to give you a broader experience of the Group before specialising in your chosen area. After all, future leaders and pioneers don’t always specialise right from day one. It’s as much about breadth of experience as it is about depth of knowledge.

Specialist Year

Having chosen a career in HR, the next 12 months will be all about picking up the specialist knowledge and experience you need. You’ll complete 3 different placements that will give you a broad understanding of your chosen area. They’ll also give you the opportunity to gain real-life experience in an HR role. Better still, you’ll get a clear understanding of how HR operates in different areas of the business, from our Mass HR Shared Services Centre right through to our business-specific HR departments.

Business Role

After completing the 2-year programme, you’ll have all the skills, confidence and qualifications you need to step up to a manager role in one of our HR teams. Thanks to your experience on the programme, you’ll also have an idea of which HR area you’d like to progress your career in. And whatever this happens to be, we’ll give you all the support you need to help you succeed. 

Management Development Programme

Starting with feedback from your assessment centre, your development path will draw together every aspect of your learning. You’ll embark on a structured development programme covering everything from commercial awareness to leadership skills. Put simply, they’ll give you everything you'll need to take the business forward. Better still, you’ll have a wide range of support including a mentor, a personal development budget and all our full support in driving your career.

Professional Development

We’ll support you at every stage of your 2 year programme, including sponsoring you to get your CIPD qualification. So on top of practical experience, we’ll pay for all books and materials, cover the cost of your course fees and give you study leave for exams.

Learning & Development Reviews

Learning is constant. So we make sure we review your performance and progress continually. After each project we’ll talk, reflect and plan the next steps, helping you to focus on your development and boost your career.
