Buying & marketing

Our Buying & Marketing teams, part of our Commercial Function, play a key role in maintaining the Co-operative Food’s reputation as the UK’s Largest Community Retailer.

Our Buying team has complete ownership of the range of products sold in our ever-expanding store estate, which includes Superstores, High Street Stores, Convenience Stores and Petrol Forecourts.

The Buying & Marketing teams have been directly responsible for the introduction of Fairtrade products, honest labelling and bio-degradable carrier bags, to name just a few, helping us become the UK’s ethical retailer of choice 3 years running. 

As part of our Marketing team you will promote our range of products to a consumer base of at least 3 million active members, via in-store campaigns and external media including online, radio, TV and nationwide road shows.

Commercial Team

The Commercial Team is responsible for ranging, product sourcing, supplier negotiations, maintenance of pricing, delivery of promotions and a number of other initiatives that develop our customer offer. It is vital that we continue to provide a product offering that excites, represents value for money, increases basket spend and is ultimately focused on the customers’ needs.

Commercial Support

The Commercial Support Team provides the tools, analysis and information needed to support the Commercial Team to drive successful ranges and campaigns. Customer Relations sits within this team, providing direct support to our valued customers increasing confidence in, and satisfaction with, our range of products and services. We are always looking to enhance our customer offer.

Media and Communications

The responsibility of the Media and Communications team extends from the look and feel of stores, packaging, leaflets and in-store point of sale, to the delivery of TV, digital advertising campaigns and in-store point of sale materials to our store estate. All this communicates the Co-operative brand with the real passion and creative flair that our customers have come to expect.

Product Offer

Responsible for developing a great tasting range of food products to suit all budgets, we are continually creating award-winning quality products; notably, in 2010 we launched 500 new recipes. We are committed to developing a range of products that truly excites our customers.

Strategy, Insight & Planning

It is the role of this team to ensure that we remain focused on the customer whilst fostering and growing a culture of innovation throughout the function. We develop the strategic thinking, and we plan, deliver and continually evaluate what has been put in place to ensure it is successful, always being one step ahead to ensure our stores are fully prepared at critical points of the year to exceed our customer expectations.
