Dealership roles

With turnovers of anything between £700,000 and £30m, our The Co-operative Motor Group’s dealerships are like mini businesses, employing up to 80 people each, including our sales and parts & service teams.

Overseeing it all, there is a Dealer Principal, who takes responsibility for the team, performance and the smooth running of the site, creating an environment that is great for customers and for staff. Their job is to maximise the performance of people and the business, which calls for in-depth experience of senior management within the retail motor industry, ideally supported with professional qualifications and membership of the I.M.I.

Some dealerships also have a Site General Manager, who supports the Dealer Principal in driving business performance. Providing vision and inspiration in equal measure, they need a proven track-record of management within the motor industry, together with strong negotiating skills and an in-depth awareness of vehicle and consumer legislation.

The Dealership Accountant/Financial Controller advises on and oversees all financial issues, and makes sure there is a regular flow of accurate management information. Fully up-to-date with current accounting standards and practice, they need an appropriate qualification and experience, together with excellent communication skills.

Supporting this senior team, and helping make sure we provide a great service to customers, we have Receptionist/Telephonists, who take calls, meet customers and help with admin out around the dealership. Similarly, our Showroom Hosts look after the showroom environment and our customers, making sure they always feel welcome and looked after. Both roles call for administrative experience and outstanding customer care skills, plus the ability to work in busy and sometimes pressured situations.
