Benefits

The Co-operative is a business that likes to give something back to the communities in which we work. We like to give to our colleagues too.

Your commitment and contribution mean a lot to us, so we have designed a benefits package that rewards, supports and motivates you fully. It includes the best from all of our businesses – and more!

Salary

We pay highly competitive rates, and salaries increase in line with your skills and experience. (In a recent survey, 60% of our Branch Managers said our package is better than those of our competitors).

Bonus

We believe in rewarding you for the success you help to bring to our business. In our branches, we’ve launched an incentive scheme that gives bonuses for reaching targets for (amongst other things) prescription sales and reduced wastage. It’s not capped either, so your hard work won’t go unnoticed! We also reward excellent service with a discretionary bonus for colleagues on a managerial contract.

Pension

We operate an award-winning pension scheme, which provides a replacement income of around 75% of your salary should you be unable to work due to ill health. We also offer life assurance equivalent to three times your salary, ensuring your family will be provided for.

Holiday

You’ll receive a generous holiday entitlement of at least 24 days, plus nine bank and public holidays. This holiday entitlement will increase with length of service to a maximum of 31 days, depending on your role.

Employee Recognition Scheme

We believe in rewarding our colleagues who go above and beyond what’s expected of them, with a ‘thank you’ gift to show our appreciation. This can range from a bottle of champagne to a bunch of flowers.

Long Service Awards

Dedicated and committed colleagues who stay with us (and there are many who do) will be awarded a gift up to the value of £600 at 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60-year milestones.

Personal Development

We do all we can to support and encourage your development. You can find out more here.

Season Ticket Loan

To help reduce your own carbon footprint, we offer interest-free loans so that you can purchase a season ticket from any travel company to enable you to travel to and from work.

Discounts

We offer generous discounts from all the businesses in The Co-operative Group. There are plenty to choose from, including:

  • 10% discount on conveyancing, food and pharmacy products (excluding prescriptions)
  • 25% discount on home insurance;
  • 15% discount on motor insurance
  • 9% discount on life and critical illness insurance
  • 5% discount on travel (excluding cruises, Dublin departures and price matching)
  • 15% discount on Funeralcare professional fees
  • 35% discount off the BUPA Care product standard rates.

    Employee Assistance Programme

This programme offers unlimited and confidential help and advice from external specialists. As well as a telephone helpline and counselling to all colleagues and family members, it also provides face-to-face counselling where appropriate.

    Childcare Vouchers

You’re able to take advantage of tax and national insurance savings by purchasing childcare vouchers through our payroll.

    Employee Member Benefits

One of the biggest benefits of joining us is that you’re able to become a member for just £1. You won’t just get a say in how we run our business, but access to additional benefits, including a share of our profits. For the last three years, this payment has been a maximum share of £500. You’ll also enjoy a range of offers and discounts covering everything from dental cover and laser eye surgery to theme parks, spas and gym membership, as well as big savings at major high street retailers such as Halfords. There really is something for everyone!

    Family-Friendly Policies

We recognise the importance of colleagues having good work-life balance and have created a range of policies designed to help you achieve this.

    Relocation

Relocation is available for candidates who are willing to move for specific roles. This will be discussed on an individual basis at the offer stage.
